Surprise Gift

My daughter will be celebrating her birthday in August.  I am planning to give her crochet things and  knitting needle sets so her hands will spin away during quiet nights or for days when the weather is too sad to go out. My, was I surprised!  All these things are easy to find and are available in stores inside the malls that mushroomed almost everywhere.  There is even a discount yarn section. I bought balls of different colors and materials but more of the fingering weight yarn, should she expect another baby.  In my days you have to go to special stores that sold these items or mail order them.

So, as early as May, I started shopping to see what I can find.  There were crochet hooks made of plastic, wood, steel (which was the popular choice).  I also knitting needle sets. It was her choice to crochet or knit. Choosing the perfect material was a dilemma. To narrow my selection, I opted balls of yarns in a variety of make and material for a starter. I had thread cutters and DVDs that gave instructions on crocheting/knitting.  I even had that perfect basket to keep them all in. So, I raised my eyebrow, took the wicker basket with all of them inside, carried it to my room and decided to either take her and her family out for lunch or dinner or give her cash instead.  As it turned out, it was my very own surprise gift.
