Make a date with yourself to try a new recipe. Subscribe to a couple of cooking magazines. Go to the library and spend an afternoon perusing the many cookbooks for recipes. The next thing you know, you may find yourself in some interesting conversations with avid cooks. And people will always be your friend if you feed them!
Do you like to bicycle? Arrange a weekly bicycle ride to someplace different each week. Take your camera. Record your impressions of that weeks ride in a journal and add photos. Subscribe to a bicycling magazine and read about the bicycle tours available all over the country. Save up and go on an adventure. Maybe a friend would like to go with you. There are bike clubs that sponsor rides on a weekly basis in many cities. Joining them will have you sharing bicycling adventure stories with other enthusiasts in no time.
Eventually any interest pursued faithfully will connect you to others who share that interest, and the next thing you know you will be so busy with your new friendships that you will have to look hard for time alone.
